Tzaneen - Three awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped from Tzaneen police station earlier this week have been re-arrested at a farm outside Tzaneen, Limpopo police said on Thursday.

Police said Huston Mabasa, 27, was re-arrested at Westfalia farm on Thursday morning.

He was re-arrested along with Lucky Mashatola, 24, who had been captured on on Wednesday between Tzaneen and Modjadjiskloof, and Goodwill Marana Sekhwela, 26, who had been re-arrested on Tuesday in a village outside Tzaneen following a tip-off from members of the community.

The three were part of a group of seven prisoners who had escaped on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said the hunt for the remaining four, Victor Makgopa, Mahlatsi Sekgota, Tshepo Charles Sebake and Piet Solly Sekgobela was still underway.

“They were arrested for various violent crimes, ranging from armed robbery, housebreaking to rape and they are extremely dangerous as a result,” said Ngoape.

He appealled to members of community not to engage the suspects, saying communities should alert local police or Brigadier Thomas Shingange on 082 565 8155.

Ngoape said an internal investigation had been launched to determine how the seven managed to overpower on-duty police officials on Tuesday morning.
