Johannesburg – A 47-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in De Aar in the Northern Cape after being linked to an illicit licensing scheme, in which another suspect has already been arrested and approximately R3.7 million in cash seized, police said.

Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said the latest arrest was made on Wednesday morning and follows the arrest earlier this month of Elton Abrahams, 33.

“The arrest follow multifaceted investigations into the alleged illegal licensing scheme which focused on processing roadworthy certificates, particularly for big trucks and busses,” Ramovha said.

The man is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday alongside Abrahams to face charges involving fraud and corruption.

The Hawks said investigations were continuing, with the scope affecting several provinces, and more arrests were expected.
