Cape Town - A 30-year-old man has been shot dead while standing in his neighbour’s yard in Delft.
The area is known for gang activity, although a motive for the killing had not been established, police said.
Jonathan Jacobs was standing in the yard of a neighbour’s house in Limpopo Street
at about 8.40pm when a silver Toyota Tazz drove up to the property.
The car did not have number plates.
“Two occupants got out of the vehicle and shot the victim several times,” said police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk.
“The victim died on the scene due to the extent of his injuries.
“A murder case was opened for investigation but there are no arrest as yet,” Van Wyk said.
Police have asked anyone with information about the murder to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
Witnesses said the men walked up to Jacobs, knocked him to the ground, and shot him in the chest.
Jacobs had been involved in gangsterism but had started to turn his life around recently, the witnesses said.
He was in the process of leaving a gang, a neighbour said. They asked not to be named for safety reasons.
At the time of publication, it could not be established to which gang Jacobs had belonged.
