Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu said the 44-year-old man was approached by two unknown men around 9pm on Monday evening.

He is the bodyguard of deputy mayor Nancy Sihlwayi.

“The men drew firearms and a shootout ensued. The bodyguard was hit in the upper body,” Gwavu said.

He said the man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was stable.
