Cape Town - The eighth day of the trial of honeymoon murder accused Shrien Dewani came to an end just as taxi driver Zola Tongo started testifying about the last moments Dewani's wife, Swedish beauty Anni Hindocha, spent alive in Cape Town.

Tongo was the couple's taxi driver and tour guide while they were on honeymoon in Cape Town in November 2010.

He is serving 18 years in jail for his role in the 2010 murder, which was imposed after he entered into a plea and sentence agreement with the State.

In terms of the agreement, he sagreed to testify against Dewani.

According to Tongo, Dewani said that he wanted to have someone “taken out of sight”.

Dewani told him the person was a female business partner who was going to arrive in Cape Town later.

Tongo told him he did not get himself involved in such things but said he would find out if there was someone else who would do it.

He asked to be paid R5 000 for his role.

Dewani later told him the hit must be made to look like a hijacking.

Tongo then went to see Monde Mbolombo - a receptionist at a hotel in Century City - to find hitmen.

Mbolombo recommended Mziwamadoda Qwabe who brought Xolile Mngeni on board.

However, the plan failed when, after travelling along the planned route to the agreed hijack location, Qwabe and Mngeni were not there.

They later called to say they had transport issues and rescheduled for later that evening.

Tongo said he took the couple to have dinner at a restaurant in Somerset West.

He said Dewani stared at him, wide-eyed and worried in the rear view mirror as he drove on.

Gay escort Leopold Leisser, also known as the German Master, started testifying this morning about his interaction with Dewani.

However, his testimony was interrupted when the defence objected to the relevance of the evidence.

Deputy Judge President Jeanette Traverso asked the witness to stand down until the parties give her written submissions of why the evidence should or should not be allowed.

Only then will she make a ruling on whether or not it would be allowed.

The trial continues on Tuesday.
