The name Shrien Dewani is increasingly popping up in cyberspace.

So far, a number of Facebook pages have been created in favour of and against him as well as pages in memory of his wife, Anni Dewani. He is suspected of having had her murdered.

On Monday person purporting to be Shrien Dewani set up a Twitter account and posted messages in his name.

“I hope the insurance on my wife pays out soon. Last night I had to stay in and eat a can of beans.

“It’s no way for a billionaire to act,” one of the tweets read.

On Facebook, the Shrien Dewani page most popular with users was “Shrien Dewani We Want The Truth”, which was “liked” by 231 people.

Other Facebook pages about Shrien Dewani had names ranging from “False Allegations Against Shrien Dewani” to “Shrien Dewani Go Back To South Africa”.

When typing in the letters “sh” in the Google search engine, the first search prompt to appear was “Shrien Dewani”.

The Facebook page most popular with users and named in honour of Anni Dewani was entitled: “Memory of Anni Dewani”.

More than 29 600 people indicated they liked the page and on its wall they left messages of condolence to her friends and family.

“May Anni’s soul rest in peace … And may the guilty party be brought 2 justice,” a message read.

Another Facebook page, which more than 4 000 people liked, was titled “The Anni Dewani (Hindocha) Case” and invited users to comment on and discuss the investigation into Dewani’s murder and related court proceedings. - Cape Times
