Johannesburg - The trial of Xolile Mngeni, one of the men accused of killing honeymooner Anni Dewani, is expected to continue in the Cape High Court on Tuesday.

On Monday, the court heard Mngeni was seen with a pistol the day of Dewani's murder.

A 26-year-old State witness, who may not be identified, said he saw his friend Mngeni on November 13, 2010, carrying a firearm. In court on Monday he identified the weapon by a star that had been scratched onto it, near the trigger.

The witness said the following day he met Mngeni carrying a man's Prada watch, and a lady's Georgio Armani watch. He wanted to sell the latter for R400.

His cross-examination would continue on Tuesday.

Mngeni has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder, and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Dewani was killed in an apparent hijacking in Cape Town, while on honeymoon with her husband Shrien. - Sapa
