Brits, North West - The case of a doctor accused of defrauding a private medical scheme and the labour department was postponed in the Brits Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, the labour department said.
Dr Ganesh Anil Anirudhra would return to the North West court on February 12 next year, spokesman Page Boikanyo said.
He is out on R20 000 bail.
“The State is now awaiting a decision of the National Director of Public Prosecutions on which court has the capacity to prosecute him.”
Anirudhra faces 319 charges of fraud against Bonitas Medical Scheme and the department's Compensation Fund (CF) which covers injured workers.
He allegedly made false claims to the CF for treating injured workers between 2008 and 2012.
Boikanyo said he had also practised as a gynaecologist while registered only as a general practitioner.
Anirudhra had been on the run before he was caught in December 2012, and was previously convicted in 1989 and 1991 for fraud, said Boikanyo.
