It’s business as usual for a city dog trainer whose Rottweiler is alleged to have attacked a two-year-old girl on a city beach.

James Lech, who calls himself the Dog Shaman, posted details on his blog of a “pack walk” at a city nature reserve on Saturday.

“A beautiful pack walk in the nature reserve today. Great sunshine and no wind. The POWER of the PACK walk is always a unique and amazing experience,” he wrote.

He provided a link so people could apply to join future walks.

Last week, Meeka Lackay was attacked by a Rottweiler on Clifton’s First Beach. Her mother said Sunday night she was recovering well after emergency surgery.

Her parents have laid a charge with the police against Lech.

This was the second incident involving one of Lech’s dogs.

In July last year it was reported that four-year-old Sadie Kukkuk was mauled by Lech’s Rottweiler in the Hyde Park shopping centre in Joburg.

It is not known whether the same dog was involved in the Lackay attack.

Lech, who offered to pay for all of Meeka’s treatment, has been fined R1 500 by the City of Cape Town for walking his dogs illegally. There were three with him at the time of the attack.

The dog involved in the attack has been impounded.

The SPCA’s Moyo Ndukwana said it must be decided whether the case will go to the municipal or the magistrate’s court.
