Durban - A domestic worker was held up by a gang of armed robbers, who were allegedly posing as Telkom workers in Hillcrest, on Sunday.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the men knocked on the door of an Inanda Road home and told the domestic worker that they were Telkom workers.

“The men told her that they had come to repair the landline and she opened up for them,” Jackson said. “They held her up at gunpoint and fled with jewellery and a firearm.”

Jackson advised residents to warn those working for them about the dangers of opening up to strangers who claimed to be repairmen or municipal workers.

“Remind them regularly to not allow anybody on the property without first contacting you to check whether you are expecting a contractor, and to check that any identity card presented is in fact legitimate,” he said.

Police said a case had not been opened.
