A domestic worker has been charged with statutory rape for allegedly forcing the 15-year-old son of her Bergvliet employers to have sex with her at the family home where she worked.
The family cannot be identified in order to protect the boy’s identity.
The State alleges in the charge sheet that 24-year-old Jodene Jackson of Macassar raped the teenaged boy “over a period of time”.
The charge sheet did not specify how many counts of rape she is facing.
She was arrested on April 14, by which time she had been working for the family for about a year.
Jackson made her first appearance in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court two days later.
Prosecutor Shaina Naidoo later told the court that the State did not object to Jackson being released on bail.
In an affidavit before the court, Jackson said she had no previous convictions, no pending cases, no outstanding warrants and did not own a passport.
She indicated that she would plead not guilty to the charge.
On April 23, magistrate Marietjie van Eeden released her on bail of R300 and imposed strict bail conditions. These prohibited Jackson from contacting the boy and his family and from visiting the Bergvliet area.
She has to report to the Macassar police station every Monday and Wednesday between 6pm and 10pm.
Jackson made another brief appearance in court on Thursday.
Her case was transferred to the Wynberg Regional Court, where she is expected to be tried.
She will appear in that court on August 15, but a trial date has not been arranged.
