A man was arrested after he knocked down and killed a pedestrian while spinning his car in Ikageng, North West police said on Sunday.

“The man, driving a silver VW Golf, was allegedly spinning his vehicle on Mogolodi Street and collided with a pedestrian. He tried to escape and community members gave chase,” said spokesman Sergeant Philani Nkwalase.

The driver was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

He knocked down four other bystanders while attempting to get away from the scene.

The four were taken to hospital for treatment.

The man was later arrested and charged with culpable homicide.

He will appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrates' Court soon. - Sapa
