A drug mule has been arrested at Cape Town International Airport, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

The man, 40, was arrested on Wednesday night for carrying 99 bundles of the drug khat, with an estimated street value of R80 000, Warrant Officer November Filander said.

Khat is a plant which, when chewed, produces a sense of mild euphoria and excitement.

The Somalian arrived on a flight from Joburg with the drugs in his luggage, Filander said.

He was expected to appear soon in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on a charge of possession of drugs. – Sapa
