Johannesburg - A man was arrested on Thursday afternoon after he was caught manufacturing drugs in Brackendowns, Alberton, Gauteng police said.

“Our officer, who is staying in the area, was driving around when he smelled a weird smell. He suspected that there was something wrong in a house there,” said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

The officer then called for back-up.

Police entered the house and found three men manufacturing Cat (methcathinone). Two managed to escape.

A Nigerian national, in his 40s, was arrested.

Police confiscated drug-making equipment and chemicals as well as two computers.

Drugs with an estimated street value of R500 000 were seized.

The suspect would appear in the Alberton Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of dealing in drugs. - Sapa
