Johannesburg - Dagga and other drugs with an estimated street value of R10 000 have been seized at the Bree Street taxi rank in Johannesburg, police said on Thursday.

The drugs were seized on Wednesday afternoon, Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said.

Police went to the taxi rank after receiving a tip-off, but the men who allegedly sold the drugs managed to run away.

“Police received information from a community member that there is a place selling drugs to school children at Bree taxi rank,” said Mbele.

The children had to leave their identity books with the men if they did not have money to pay for the drugs.

“Police recovered an ID book of a 19-year-old male. We suspect that he also left it there because he didn't have money to pay for drugs,” said Mbele.

Police appealed to parents with children attending schools in the CBD to check daily whether they had their ID books with them. - Sapa
