Johannesburg - A woman was arrested after 14 packets of the drug cat (methcathinone) were found in an allegedly abducted baby's nappy in Brakpan on Friday, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

Spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said the woman's house was raided after a tip-off and they discovered the drugs with an estimated street value of R1400.

The two-month-old baby had apparently been abducted.

“The police were stunned when the 23-year-old... woman informed them she (had) accepted the baby from a male friend,” he said.

“The man claimed that after hijacking a car in January he realised there was a baby in it. He decided to get rid of the baby by giving it to her.”

Kgasago said police confirmed that a case was laid in Springs in January after a car was hijacked with a baby inside.

“I am sure that they are now in the process of contacting the (baby's) family.”

The woman would appear in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
