Johannesburg - A former Moqhaka municipal manager accused of money laundering, fraud and theft was granted bail by the Kroonstad Magistrate's Court on Monday, the National Prosecuting Authority said.

Mokete Victor Duma was granted R5 000 bail and the case was postponed until June 18, regional NPA spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said.

Duma allegedly took out a multi-million-rand loan for a grader and a landfill compactor for the municipality in 2009, he said.

Even though the machines did not reach the municipality, it paid the bank monthly instalments on its loan until Duma's successor brought the matter to the bank's attention and the contract was cancelled.
