Butterworth - A 57-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl, Eastern Cape Police said on Wednesday.
Captain Jackson Manatha said Mlindeli Giba was sentenced at the Butterworth Regional Court on Tuesday.
“The allegation is that the victim was called by the suspect to his home and raped her on 08 May 2015 at about 6.30pm at Skiet informal settlement, Butterworth. It is alleged that the victim reported the matter to the neighbour and the neighbour phoned her father who was at work and he came.”
Captain Manatha said Giba promised to give the victim’s father a sum of R2 000 every month if he did not report the case to police.
The father refused. Community caught the accused and handed over to police who arrested him for rape.
