Educators in court for principal’s murderComment on this story
Durban - Three men appeared briefly in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court in Durban on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a local school principal.
National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said Mfundi Sibiya, Lindani Mkhize and Mhlengi Luthuli were charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
Cyril Herbert Nkosinathi Zondi, 46, the principal of Nyon'eMhlophe Primary in the Ugu educational district, was shot five times at his home in Umlazi last May.
Zondi was also regional chairman of the SA Democratic Teachers' Union in the lower South Coast region.
According to Sadtu, Sibiya is the KwaZulu-Natal education department's district director for Ugu while Luthuli is a principal at a school.
Ramkisson-Kara said the matter has been postponed to 7 April for a formal bail application.
Two other people have been arrested in connection with Zondi's killing.
Ramkisson-Kara said Mbuzo Makoba and Andile Welcome Zulu had already been charged with murder and they had been refused bail.
They were expected back in court on April 24 for their indictments to be served.
