Johannesburg - Two policemen and six men believed to be members of a syndicate hijacking cars on the West Rand were arrested in Soweto on Wednesday morning, the Hawks said.

“The Hawks swooped on the suspects in Protea Glen, Jabulani and Naledi. Two of them are police officers,” spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

“We have a warrant of arrest for another policeman and one man who is still at large.”

The men were linked to car hijackings in the West Rand area. They were expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of theft and hijacking. The officers would face additional charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice. - Sapa
