Elderly couple’s attackers still at large

Bloemfontein - Police were still searching on Tuesday for two men who attacked and wounded an elderly couple on a plot in Bainsvlei, near Bloemfontein.

Colonel Thandi Mbambo said Pieter and Elsa Kolver were assaulted and shot on their plot early on Saturday morning.

Pieter was shot twice and stabbed 11 times. His nose was broken. His wife was beaten with a pipe and firearm. Her right leg and nose were broken. The two men tied them up and threw a mattress over them.

Bloemfontein Mediclinic spokeswoman Amanda Appelgryn said they were recuperating well.

“They were moved from ICU to a ward. Their situations are stable.”

Residents were planning a meeting during the first week of February to discuss crime in the area. - Sapa
