Bloemfontein - An elderly woman was found murdered in her home in the mining town of Allanridge on Thursday, Free State police said.

Captain Stephen Thakeng said her neighbours called police after they noticed water flowing out of her house, where she lived alone.

“On arrival, the lifeless body of Elleanor Dorfling, 82, was found inside her bath full of water that was running from the house to the street,” said Thakeng.

Her hands had been bound with a tie. It was suspected that intruders entered Dorfling's house through the roof.

“There were blood stains on the walls. Blood could also be seen in her mouth,” said Thakeng.

A murder docket was opened. Thakeng said since the woman lived alone, it was difficult to tell whether anything had been stolen.
