Employee at Cape school faces sex chargeComment on this story
Cape Town - An employee at Paarl Gymnasium High School has been dismissed as police investigate allegations of sexual misconduct.
“This office can confirm that two incidents have been reported under the Sexual Offences Act and are currently being investigated by the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit,” said police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk.
No arrests have yet been made.
A complaint against the man was lodged at the Paarl police station on Tuesday, but neither police nor Paarl Gym’s School Governing Body (SGB) would disclose further details.
A statement from Marius Botha of SGB confirmed that the employee, who was working on a part-time basis at the school, had been dismissed. He also said that an internal investigation at the school was under way.
Paddy Attwell, spokesman for the province’s Department of Education, said that the suspect was an employee of the SGB and not of the department. The department viewed allegations of this sort in a very serious light, he said. - Cape Argus
