Equipment worth R2m seized in raid on drug lab

Johannesburg - Police in Limpopo have confiscated machines, drug manufacturing equipment as well as chemicals with an estimated value of R2 million.

Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said two suspects aged 26 and 39 were arrested at the drug laboratory which had different equipment and bags of mandrax powder.

Police also recovered two stolen vehicles - a Ford Meteor and Nissan NP 300 - which were reported stolen in January 2009 in Thabazimbi.

"Police received an information regarding the suspects who are involved in vehicle theft ,carjacking and dealing in and manufacturing drugs at Thabakhubedu village in Dennilton policing precinct," said Mojapelo.

Equipment for manufacturing of Mandrax tablets with an estimated value R2 million and R29 820 in cash was also recovered.

Mojapelo said that two other suspects managed to evade arrest.

"The arrested suspects will be charged with manufacturing and dealing in drugs and possession of stolen vehicles. The operation lasted several hours until 04h00 this morning. More arrests are expected."

The suspects will appear in Moutse Magistrate Court soon.
