Pretoria - A police reservist from the Pretoria Central SAPS was shot in the back after she was called to a meeting with her ex-boyfriend in Marabastad early on Wednesday morning.

According to police spokesman Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng, Ellen Meje was called to meet her former lover on the corner of Bazaar and Es’kia Mphahlele (formerly DF Malan) streets at 5.45am.

“When she arrived she was shot in the lower back. She is in a stable condition in hospital,” Mofokeng said.

He said police are investigating the incident and are trying to locate the whereabouts of the shooter.

A police officer from Pretoria Central police station, who did not want to be named, confirmed Meje’s identity and said the ex-boyfriend had obtained a protection order against her earlier this week.

“They had been broken up a while but they still fought and they could not leave each other alone,” the officer said.

When she signed the protection order, there was another fight.

“According to her version, she was called to meet him. He apparently did not say anything and just pulled the gun and shot her,” the officer told Pretoria News.
