Pretoria - A former Tshwane metro police officer was arrested on Friday for allegedly promising people jobs in the department, a spokesman said.

“He was pretending to be still working as a police officer, scamming the public of their money by promising them employment in the...TMPD,” Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.

The man was arrested at the metro police department's offices in Boom Street, where he used to work.

“He was arrested when a security officer working at these offices notified the TMPD that the suspect had promised him employment if he paid R2 000.”

Mahamba urged people to avoid paying money in return for jobs.
