Pretoria - A Pretoria man claimed he was rushing to help a friend with a burst water pipe when he was caught travelling at 211km/h on his superbike yesterday.
Gauteng traffic police’s high speed unit caught the man speeding along the N4 towards Pretoria and arrested him near the Simon Vermooten offramp on a white Yamaha superbike.
“The man claimed that he was on his way to a friend’s house to assist after a water pipe burst, and from there to go to church,” said traffic police spokeswoman Busaphi Nxumalo.
In Joburg yesterday, a motorcyclist died in a single-vehicle accident on the N12 near the Xavier Street off-ramp.
A driver drowned in Durban when he apparently lost control of a container truck and plunged into the harbour, smashing into the side of a ship before sinking.
