Johannesburg - An alleged plot by Czech criminal Radovan Krejcir and jailed police impersonator William “king of bling” Mbatha to have five people murdered has been uncovered after middlemen went shopping for a hitman.

The Star has learnt that Mbatha, who is in jail for 113 years for a spate of house robberies, while dressed as a police officer allegedly helped Krejcir to plan the hits.

He and Krejcir are incarcerated at Zonderwater Prison.

According to an undercover agent, whose statement The Star has seen, Mbatha contacted a middleman, who then went looking for men to carry out the killings.

The agent posing as a hitman met the middleman, whose identity is known to The Star, in Pretoria, where he was shown photographs of the first person to be murdered - forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan.

While the fee of R200 000 was discussed between the two men, a cigarette packet was handed over with O’Sullivan’s location scribbled on it.

O’Sullivan was warned of the plot and contacted the police.

According to the statements, police then contacted the middleman over the phone to try to meet with him.

The man revealed that O’Sullivan was the first target, and if he was murdered, there were four more who needed to be killed. Three of them are in Joburg and the fourth in Pretoria.

The price for the hits had increased to R250 000 each.

Investigators were also told another team had been put on the job, and whoever carried out the hit first would get the money.

O’Sullivan told The Star that a plan was put in place to arrest the men involved, but instead he was told by police that the attempt on his life had been “disrupted”.

Police confronted Krejcir with the fact that he was going to be charged (for a third time) for conspiring to have O’Sullivan murdered. A source close to the investigation into Krejcir’s criminal activities confirmed the plot, and insisted that while no arrests had been made, several suspects had been made known.

He added that Krejcir would be questioned on Friday about the assassination plot after being informed of the allegations in the high court in Joburg on Wednesday.

Krejcir’s lawyer, Cliff Alexander, was quick to dismiss the allegations, saying it would have been impossible for the Czech to make such a plan as he had no contact with other prisoners.

“The allegation is that he approached an inmate at Zonderwater (to arrange the hit), but this would be impossible as he is kept in isolation.

Radovan Krejcir emphatically denies this,” said Alexander.

He said the police would be taking warning statements on Friday, and if an investigation was required, it should go ahead.

O’Sullivan has written to a general in the police to say he was concerned that nobody had been arrested despite there having been ample opportunity to do so. - Additional reporting by Karishma Dipa
