Umlazi - Four men have been arrested in connection with a fake learner's and driver's licence racket in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

The four were taken into custody on Wednesday after allegedly swindling a woman out of R11,000, spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said.

They apparently took R5500 for a learner's licence and another R5500 for the driver's licence from an unsuspecting parent, who paid these amounts on her daughter's behalf.

Police pounced after the Road Traffic Inspectorate confirmed the licences were fraudulent. They confiscated a laptop computer and a printer, believed to have been used to make the licences, in two of the suspect's homes on Florida Road.

The men, aged between 24 and 29, would appear in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court on fraud charges on Friday. - Sapa
