Pretoria – A 29-year-old woman was arrested in Durban on Friday, for allegedly selling invalid South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) cards, KwaZulu-Natal said.
Spokesman Lt-Col Thulani Zwane said she was arrested by the Rapid Rail Police Unit from Kwa-Zulu-Natal.
“The arrest follows information which was brought forward by a woman who learned about the scam and then pretended to be a customer. She made an appointment to meet with an alleged suspect at Umgeni Road and then called the police who took the suspect for questioning,” he said.
“The alleged suspect gave information to the police that she got the cards from a woman at Empangeni who has got boxes full of these Sassa cards and each card costs R1000.”
He said when she was searched and police found two Sassa cards in her possession.
She is expected to appear in the Durban Central Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing fraud.
