Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a farmer near Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

“The suspects, aged 28 and 43 years old, were arrested on Wednesday night in Mpumalanga,” Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Gert Uys, 55, was shot and killed in his farmhouse at Swart-Mfolozi on July 31.

He was killed as he was preparing to pay his employees.

Zwane said the men took R18,000 and a revolver. They fled the scene in the farmer's Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle, which was later found abandoned on a gravel road.

Two firearms were recovered during the arrest and would be sent for ballistic tests.

The two are due to appear in the Vryheid Magistrate's Court on Friday.
