Cape Town - Police and relatives of the woman whose body was among six found near Century City train station have confirmed she disappeared on Tuesday.

The six were all found face down in shallow graves, with their hands tied behind their backs, in bushes between Century City and Acacia Park train stations up until Friday.

A body has been found in the area every two months since February.

Due to the similar modus operandi, a special police task team is investigating whether a serial killer is on the loose.

The police’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit had taken over the investigations as all women, estimated to be between the ages of 20 and 32, were raped.

A man who said he worked with the victim contacted the Cape Times on Monday, saying: “She was a cleaner at Century City and a mother-of-two named Nomathemba. We had brief chats and often shared laughs.”

He said the woman had told him of her recent graduation.

The woman’s Khayelitsha family refused to speak to the Cape Times on Monday night, saying police had requested no media contact.

Asked if staying quiet about the date of the victim’s disappearance did not jeopardise the public’s safety, police spokesman Arno Lamoer replied: “We have lots of people who go missing and we have to follow normal procedure.

“Everyone knows about these discoveries and with the most recent discovery, we informed the public to be vigilant and careful in that area.”
