Makopane, Limpopo - The murder trial of a farmer accused of killing his wife by running her over with his bakkie began in the Mokopane Circuit Court on Monday.

Lt-Col Ronel Otto said Fanie Terblanche would be back in court on Tuesday.

Terblanche allegedly ran over Lizette Terblanche, 45, his wife of two months, in October 2006. Terblanche also allegedly ran over his wife's aunt Letitia. She survived.

After being granted bail by the High Court in Pretoria, Terblanche skipped bail and fled to Zambia.

He was tracked down last year after Lizette's sister started a Facebook group called “Help us find Fanie Terblanche - he killed my sister and is on the run”.

A woman in Zambia, whose friend dated Terblanche, contacted her to tell her where he was. In June last year, Interpol escorted Terblanche to South Africa. He was arrested on his arrival at OR Tambo International Airport. - Sapa
