Two men have been arrested for robbing a farmer of five firearms and ammunition in Madikwe in North West province, police said on Friday.
Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said the armed pair accosted the 53-year-old farmer while he was visiting his cattle post at Moubane village.
They got away with a revolver, five rounds of ammunition, two hunting rifles, and a shotgun.
“The farmer was not harmed and reported the matter to the chief, who alerted the police,” said Ngubane.
Ngubane said the first robber, 29, was found hiking for a lift to Rustenburg in the early hours of Friday.
“The man was arrested after he was found in possession of two firearms. He led police to the home of the second robber, 26, who was found with the other two stolen firearms,” said Ngubane.
The two were expected to appear in the Madikwe Magistrate's Court on Monday. – Sapa
