A man once linked to the brutal murder of his own daughter has now been arrested for sexually assaulting another child.

Gerald Abrahams has appeared in Bellville Magistrates’ Court for the sexual assault of a teenager.

The 31-year-old Delft man is the father of slain Kim Abrahams whose body was found floating in a stagnant pool of water in August 2005.

Her killer has never been brought to justice.

Police found the Grade 1 girl strangled to death with her panties pulled down to her ankles, but ruled out any sex assault.

Abrahams is the one who discovered the six-year-old’s corpse – and it was him who cops took in for questioning.

Eventually a neighbour, Jerome Holmes, was arrested for the murder.

In July 2009, Holmes dropped a bombshell when, via his lawyers, he said he and a friend had seen Abrahams walk into dense bush with Kim on his shoulder at 9pm on the night she vanished.

He also claimed in a statement that Abrahams had approached him and asked him to “join him in the bush”.

Holmes stated Kim was making a gorrelling (gurgling) sound at the time.

And he claimed he and Abrahams were both dik gerook (they smoked drugs) on the night of her disappearance.

Abrahams was questioned by cops but was later released and never charged.

The case against Holmes collapsed and he walked free on July 12, 2009 after the court found that DNA evidence taken from his clothing came back negative.

And that blood spots found on his clothes were his own and not Kim’s.

In the end, Magistrate Deon van der Spuy found that the State’s case was weak despite calling a range of witnesses.

On Friday, Abrahams was released on R1 000 bail after appearing for the alleged attack on the teen girl.

The Daily Voice caught up with the girl who says she used to have a good relationship with him.

In a soft voice, the 14-year-old says he inappropriately touched her on two occasions when she spent the weekend at his home.

“I was asleep in the room [next to the main bedroom] when I felt someone touching me,” she says.

“He first touched me on my vagina when I woke up. I turned around and he touched my breast.

“When I opened my eyes I asked him what he was doing and he just got up and went to the living room.”

The girl’s sister says she noticed something different about her the next day.

“The next day he didn’t do anything but on Sunday evening when I went back to sleep the same thing happened,” says the girl.

“I was sleeping when I felt someone get in next to me and when I turned on my cellphone’s light, it was him.

“He tried to put his arms around me but I pushed him away and again he got up and left.”

The girl told one of her sisters about it once she was back at home.

The Daily Voice has learned that Abrahams’ wife of nine months has moved out of their home with their son, two.

She says although Abrahams broke her trust after the latest allegation of sex abuse, she doesn’t believe he was involved in his daughter’s death.

“I don’t know if I can go back home... He denied it when I confronted him,” she says.

“I don’t know what to think about Kim’s death... he loves his children. He’s very over-protective.”
