A father of six will appear in the Seshego Magistrate's Court on Thursday on two counts of murder and 29 of rape, police said.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the married man was arrested on Tuesday night when police linked him to blood stains from crime scenes related to the case.

“After seven years of intensive investigations, police believe they have caught a serial rapist who has been terrorising the community of Moletjie, outside Seshego and the surrounding homesteads since 2005,” Mulaudzi said.

“Blood stains found in two separate crime scenes linked the suspect with the murders of a 14-year-old girl and a 72-year-old woman.”

Mulaudzi said the man's modus operandi was to study the movements of women who lived alone.

He would break into their houses through windows or doors, threaten them with a knife or a firearm and rape them, he said.

“Forensic results confirmed that the samples from all 29 cases to be of the same suspect.”

A task team dedicated to tracking down the man responsible for the rapes was formed, he said. - Sapa
