Polokwane - Residents of Seshego in Limpopo are living in fear after a pensioner was found dumped near a dam, her body chopped up and some parts missing.

The body of 61-year-old Mapula Margaret Malatji was discovered by fishermen who were heading to the dam on Saturday morning.

Malatji was found a few metres from her house. It is believed that she had left her house and was on her way to the Home Affairs office in Polokwane.

She was found wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped close to the dam.

According to police sources, her body was cut up and several body parts were missing.

Shocked residents believe that the pensioner was murdered for her body parts.

Police spokesperson Ronel Otto said on Monday that no one had yet been arrested in connection with the killing, but that a manhunt was underway.

Locals told the African News Agency (ANA) that the spot where the victim’s body was found dead was notorious for violence.

“Our children no longer feels safe in this park, police must find the culprit. When the deceased is buried, there must be people going to trial,” said Elizabeth Maleho.

Residents called on police to conduct routine patrols in the area, saying that people were robbed and killed.

Another resident said bodies were sometimes discovered in the dam, but said locals were shocked by the gruesome manner in which Malatji was killed.

“We use to see and hear bodies were recovered from this dam, but this one is extreme, it is very painful,” said a fearful Melta Chuene.

“This place is very dangerous people are killed, robbed and targeted but you will hardly see police in this hotspot,” said a fisherman.

“They are doing all this crimes because they don’t have respect for the law and the country,” added another fisherman.
