Durban - Police fear a gang of home raiders is operating in Newlands after a spate of similar armed robberies in the area.
At about 9pm on Sunday three armed men barged into a home in Gatehill Road, Hillgrove, pistolwhipping family members and demanding valuables.
The men ransacked the house before loading valuables into the family’s VW Polo and fleeing.
The next night, three armed men arrived at a residence in Cardan Crescent, in Parlock, a few roads away from Gatehill Road, also around 9pm.
They arrived in a VW polo, similar to the description of the one stolen the night before.
The men assaulted the family with their weapons, demanded valuables and seized cash and jewellery.
Police said the attacks were just two of many that had taken place in the area recently.
Police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said: “We can confirm that Newlands East police station is investigating two cases of house robbery which happened at Hillgrove in Newlands on October 6 and one on October 7. No arrest has been made at this stage.”
