Johannesburg - A crime intelligence police officer was arrested on Thursday for allegedly supplying GPS co-ordinates to “hit men” who were apparently planning to kill forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan and Colonel Nkosana “Killer” Ximba.
According to sources close to the investigation, the woman, who is a sergeant, is believed to have sent the “hit men” a picture of Ximba and downloaded state GPS cellphone tracking technology on the targets.
She was taken in for questioning at police headquarters on Thursday and subsequently arrested.
O’Sullivan said earlier this week that the special task team investigating the Radovan Krejcir matter were looking for a police officer who had supplied the technology to trace his phone.
Insiders alleged the woman was paid R30 000 and that she gave the men details of Ximba’s new car, which he changed after discovering he was being followed. But it is claimed she passed on information relating to the new vehicle.
The woman became the fifth suspect arrested in the murder-conspiracy case.
Police confirmed the arrest.
“The suspect is a 34-year-old woman, who is a sergeant within the crime intelligence environment. It is believed that the woman played a key role in the plot by allegedly providing software to track the investigators. Nine cellphones were confiscated from the suspect,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-General Solomon Makgale.
Siboniso Miya was arrested last week at a restaurant in Sandton, allegedly hours before he was to carry out a plot to kill O’Sullivan and Ximba.
Shortly after his arrest, Owen Serero and Zoe Biyela were arrested, at the Road Lodge in Rivonia. Jacob Nare was arrested at his house in Sandton.
The first four accused appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of robbery of motor vehicles with aggravated circumstances (armed hijacking), two counts of theft of motor vehicles, and two counts of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
The policewoman is expected to be added to the list of accused in the case when they appear in court on Monday.
