East London - A 70-year-old woman allegedly stabbed another woman to death near East London at the weekend, Eastern Cape police said.

“It is alleged that the deceased, 45, went to collect her money from the suspect's residence and they had an argument,” said Captain Mluleki Mbi.

The 48 year-old woman's body was found at Mangqukela Location, Mooiplaas, outside East London.

“Indications are that she was carrying a knife which the elderly woman managed to wrestle away from her and stabbed her in the chest.”

The suspect will appear before the East London Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. - Sapa
