Johannesburg - Firemen at the Rosebank Fire Station, in Johannesburg, were robbed on Friday morning, said Johannesburg emergency services.

Two armed men wearing balaclavas carried out the robbery, said spokesman Synock Matobako

“The men jumped out of their vehicle that was parked on Bath avenue, near the fire station, and pointed firearms at the firemen and took their cellphones, money and a walkie-talkie,” said Matobako.

“They tried to snatch a laptop and engagement ring from a female staff member, (but) when the woman resisted the men snatched one earring and sped off.”

Matobako said staff at the fire station were traumatised.

“They are supposed to protect the community from dangerous situations and not be victims of crime.” - Sapa
