Tzaneen - Five men have been arrested for possession of stolen vehicles and fuel in Ritavi, Tzaneen, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.

They were caught when police raided scrap yards on Tuesday, said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

Two men, aged 34 and 33, were arrested when they were found with a white Volkswagen bakkie. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Soweto, Gauteng, in June.

A 41-year-old man was arrested when he was found in possession of a Scania truck reported hijacked in Grootvlei, Mpumalanga, also in June.

Another two men were arrested for possession of 175 litres of diesel allegedly stolen from a construction company at Khujwane village.

Two scrapyards were shut down for non-compliance with laws regulating their operations.

Mulaudzi said the five men would appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of possession of stolen property. - Sapa
