Cape Town - Five men were arrested for the alleged murder of a 10-year-old boy and wounding two other men in Beacon Valley, Cape Town, on Wednesday, Western Cape police said.
The arrests happened around 4.30pm, with the five arrested being between the ages of 20 and 31, Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said.
The arrests took place in Loftus Street in Beacon Valley following a tip-off from the community.
The shooting happened around 7.30pm on Tuesday evening.
“According to the information, a white Honda with six occupants was driving by as they (the 10-year-old and two men) were standing (on the street) when the occupants of the car started shooting at the victims,” Kinana said.
“Then they sped away. At the time they were not recognised until an operation this (Wednesday) afternoon resulted in the arrests.”
The boy died following the shooting while the two other men, between the ages of 20 and 24, were wounded and taken to hospital.
Kinana said the motive for the shooting was still being investigated.
The five men were expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court soon.
Police expressed their appreciation to the community for their assistance, Kinana said.
