Johannesburg - Four men and a woman were arrested early on Tuesday for allegedly robbing and killing a farmer near Malalane, Mpumalanga police said.

The five were arrested around 2am while sleeping in their homes following a tip-off, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said.

Riaan Jakobus van der Berg was found murdered in his house on Friday morning. His hands were bound and there was a rope around his neck.

Van der Berg's silver Nissan Hardbody, a television set, a tumble dryer, a home theatre system and a cellphone were missing.

The four men, aged between 25 and 34, and the 24-year-old woman were expected to appear in the Malalane Periodical Court on Wednesday. - Sapa
