Johannesburg – Two Eastern Cape provincial traffic officers, a driving school instructor and the speaker of a local municipality have been arrested for alleged corruption, authorities said on Friday.
Directorate for Priority Crime investigation (Hawks) spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said that four suspects were arrested during a corruption investigation held in the Eastern Cape.
"The two traffic officials from Maletswai Municipality in Aliwal North, and the school instructor from the same area, were arrested for allegedly selling learner and driver's licenses. The three suspects are suspected to have raked in thousands of rands and investigations are ongoing."
Mulaudzi said in a separate incident, a senior official at the Walter Sisulu municipality was arrested for fraud and corruption.
"The suspect allegedly submitted subsistence and travelling claims using vehicle details of an unsuspecting member of the public."
The four suspects are expected to apply for bail at the Aliwal Magistrate's Court on Friday.
