Two robbers were arrested in Mowbray in Cape Town on Tuesday after a car chase that resulted in the injury of four police officers, police said.

The chase ensued shortly after the men, aged 25 and 30, robbed a salon of an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones, said Captain Frederick van Wyk.

Two police cars were involved in different crashes during the chase, and four officers suffered injuries. The fleeing robbers collided with another car in Woodstock, and then ran in different directions.

Police caught up with them with the help of security guards from Groote Schuur estate. The stolen cash and cellphones were found in the getaway car, said Van Wyk.

The robbers were expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of robbery.

Van Wyk said the injured officers from Mowbray police station were taken to hospital and were in a stable condition. - Sapa
