Johannesburg - Four people, including a police constable stationed in Gauteng, died when their VW minibus overturned during an attempted hijacking between Tafelkop and Motetema, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.

"The incident happened in the early hours of this morning," said spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

"According to information received, the occupants of the minibus attempted to hijack another vehicle and in the process lost control ... then overturned, killing four males and seriously injuring two women."

The minibus belonged to the police constable, who was stationed at Nigel SAPS in Ekurhuleni.

The driver of the Volkswagen Polo reported the attempted hijack at the Motetema Police Station, said Mojapelo.
