Pietermaritzburg - Four men were on Thursday convicted of murdering Gauteng taxi boss Zimele Mazibuko by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday.

The men - Busani Zuma, 29, Mali Mazibuko, 36, Sibusiso Zuma, 36, and Mxokozeli Dlamini, 49, all of Estcourt - admitted involvement in the murder of Zimele Mazibuko, who was shot dead in his Estcourt district home in February 2012.

Judge Jerome Mnguni, convicted the four, who pleaded guilty to the murder, and postponed their sentencing procedures.

Zimele Mazibuko's brother Dingane, who slept in the same room as Zimele, was shot three times in a leg, but survived. Zimele Mazibuko's body was riddled with 13 bullets.

The killing arose from a conflict between Zimele Mazibuko and another Gauteng taxi boss Mbikizeni Dlamini.

The State alleges Dlamini wanted Zimele Mazibuko killed and enlisted his brother Mali Mazibuko, 36, of Estcourt, to recruit others to kill him.

The four appeared with Thabani Ngcobo, 30, and Khuthuxolo Dlamini, 32, both of Gauteng, who pleaded not guilty to the murder and attempted murder. Their trial was separated from that of those who pleaded guilty.

Con Geldenhuys, for the four men who pleaded guilty, told the court that 22 AK-47 bullets, 20 R5 bullets, and eight 9mm bullets were fired in the attack.

The trial continues.
