Four men were arrested on Friday after the owner of a house in Lindhaven, Roodepoort, was robbed, police said.
Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said the men apparently entered the house and demanded valuables at gunpoint. They fled with jewellery, a laptop, and three cellphones.
Mogale said the owner alerted police who responded swiftly. They spotted the getaway car on the corner of Malherbe and Mark Twain streets.
The robbers sped off upon realising that the police were after them but crashed into a yield sign.
“They jumped out of the vehicle and began firing shots at police, and police returned fire injuring one suspect,” Mogale said.
The other three tried to flee but were cornered. The wounded man was taken to a local hospital under police guard.
Police recovered the stolen goods.
The four would appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court soon, Mogale said. - Sapa
