Durban - Four people were arrested and R1.6 million in cash was seized in drug busts in Chatsworth, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.

Colonel Jay Naicker said a drug dealer and his accomplice were arrested on Thursday when they sold 3 000 Mandrax tablets to an undercover policeman.

“Crime intelligence undercover operatives made a total of 12 'buys' from this drug dealer over a period of a month... (They) purchased crack cocaine, Mandrax tablets and ecstasy for approximately R136 000.”

Naicker said the drugs were seized and two more people were arrested at the drug dealers' house.

The four would appear in court soon on charges of dealing in drugs, he said.

In a different operation on Thursday, police obtained a search warrant for a property in Savannah Park.

“The warrant was executed and whilst police were searching the premises they found a bag hidden in the house's roof. On searching the bag police found South African currency totalling R1.6 million in cash,” he said.

“The South African Revenue Services were contacted and the cash was seized, pending an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the possession of this substantial amount of cash.”
